Conference Focuses on Emerging Health Issues in Underrepresented Minorities

WHAT:
“Bridging the Gap: Emerging Health Issues in Underrepresented Minorities,” a symposium for clinicians, healthcare leaders and basic researchers to raise awareness of disparities in minority health care and provide viable emerging treatment options.

The conference also aims to recruit and retain underrepresented racial/ethnic minority students in the health professions. More than 400 high school students, undergraduates and medical students interested in the health professions will attend the conference.

Dr. Joe G.N. “Skip” Garcia, vice president for health affairs, University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System

The conference is presented by the UIC College of Medicine Department of Surgery and the UIC Urban Health Program, in cooperation with the College of Medicine’s Hispanic Center of Excellence and other community partners.
