Take a musical lunch-break with free professional and student performances presented by the School of Theatre & Music at the University of Illinois at Chicago.  Unless noted otherwise, Tuesdays-at-One concerts are every Tuesday from 1 to 1:50 p.m. in Recital Hall L060, on the lower level of UIC’s Education, Theatre, Music and Social Work Building, 1040 W. Harrison St.  Admission is free.

Brassworks
The versatile artists of Brassworks have performed with Tony Bennett, Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, Al Jarreau, Michael Bolton, and the Manhattan Transfer, among others. Led by UIC faculty member Mark Olen, the quintet plays classical, jazz and popular compositions.

UIC Wind Ensemble Chamber Players
Music by Strauss, Mendelssohn Pärt, Erwazen and Persichetti.

A Sonic Journey in Percussion
UIC faculty member Jordan Kamps is joined by Colin Day and the UIC Percussion Ensemble to explore the sonic and stylistic delivery of music for percussion.

Trombonists Robin Eubanks, guest artist for the annual UIC Jazz Festival, and UIC jazz studies director Andy Baker team up for a tribute to trombonists Jay and Kai, along with faculty members Ernie Adams on drums, Stewart Miller on bass, and Dan Murphy on piano.

Musicians in UIC’s jazz program study intensively with leading Chicago jazz artists. Hear these young performers in action.

Fifth House Ensemble
The ensemble, praised by the New York Times for its “conviction, authority, and finesse,” performs “Dances Through Time,” narrating a century of dance and folk music.

Trio Speranza
On violin, cello and harpsichord, this new trio performs “At the Crossroads: Music of the French and German Baroque.”  The musicians have played with such respected ensembles as Music of the Baroque and the Newberry Consort.

Gene Collerd and Karl Davies
Violist Karl Davies and clarinetist Gene Collerd, both of UIC’s music faculty, perform chamber music by Mozart and Schumann, including Schumann’s “Märchenbilder” (“Fairy Tales”).

UIC Jazz Ensemble
The UIC Jazz Ensemble recently released its second album, “Walkin’ About,” and made its first appearance at the Chicago Jazz Festival.

All-Faculty Concert
This contemporary concert, led by José Oliver Riojas, features the funky, visceral compositions of Jacob TV and UIC’s Marc Mellits.

UIC faculty member Zvonomir Tot performs new compositions bridging jazz and classical with Daniela Ionescu-Bisenius, Carmen Llop-Kassinger, Rob Kassinger, Paula Kosower and Cheryl Wilson.
